Arguments • Lineage of Jesus Christ Matthew 1:2 – And Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers….vs.16 Jesus Luke 3:23 – Jesus…vs.34 The son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor. • Likeness of Moses Deuteronomy 18:15 –The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear. Deuteronomy 18:18-19– I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. And it shall be [that] whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require [it] of him.
Arguments • The Likeness of Moses cont. Acts 3:18-26 – But those things which God foretold by the mouth of all Hisprophets, that the Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled. Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holyprophets since the world began. For Moses truly said to the fathers, 'The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. And it shall be [that] every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.” Yes, and all the prophets, from Samuel and those who follow, as many as have spoken, have also foretold these days. You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, 'And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one [of you] from your iniquities.
Arguments • The Nature of Moses Deuteronomy 12:3 –Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth. • The Nature of Jesus Christ Matthew 11:28-29 – Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls. • The Nature of Ishmael Genesis 16:12– He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers. • The Nature of Mohammed?
The Nature of The Messiah • Jesus never forced anyone to believe in Him – John 3:16 • Jesus never killed anyone who did not believe in Him – Luke 9:56 • Jesus continued loving those who rejected Him – Mark 10:21 • Jesus did not sacrifice others; he sacrificed himself – Hebrews 7:27, 9:26 • Jesus was not the agent of God’s justice – John 3:17 • Christians are not the agents of God’s justice – Matthew 5:43-48 • If you live by the sword, you will die by the sword – Matthew 26:52 • If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight – John 18:36 • Christians are to be wise and harmless – Matthew 10:16 • God is love – I John 4:10, Romans 5:8 • God is kind, merciful and forgiving – John 8:3-11 woman in adultery
The Need for The Messiah • God promised a Messiah (Savior) – Genesis 3:15, Isaiah 7:14 • God created the world and everything in it – Genesis 1:1, John 1:3 • God made man in His own image to have a relationship with him – Col.1:16 • But mankind chose to sin, bringing death, sickness, wars, evil, hell – Rom.5:12, 6:23 • Our good works cannot save us – Titus 3:5 • God in His love provided a savior from sin: Jesus Christ – John 3:16 • All of our sins are paid in full by the death and shed blood of Jesus Christ - I Jn.2:2 • God’s gift of eternal life is for all who repent and believe in Jesus Christ – Rom.6:23 • John 14:6 – I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father except through me. • John 10:10 – The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy. I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.
Closing Thought Galatians 4:21-31 – Tell me, you who want to live under the law, do you know what the law actually says? The Scriptures say that Abraham had two sons, one from his slave wife and one from his freeborn wife. The son of the slave wife was born in a human attempt to bring about the fulfillment of God's promise. But the son of the freeborn wife was born as God's own fulfillment of his promise. These two women serve as an illustration of God's two covenants. The first woman, Hagar, represents Mount Sinai where people received the law that enslaved them. And now Jerusalem is just like Mount Sinai in Arabia, because she and her children live in slavery to the law. But the other woman, Sarah, represents the heavenly Jerusalem. She is the free woman, and she is our mother. As Isaiah said, “Rejoice, O childless woman, you who have never given birth! Break into a joyful shout, you who have never been in labor! For the desolate woman now has more children than the woman who lives with her husband!” And you, dear brothers and sisters, are children of the promise, just like Isaac. But you are now being persecuted by those who want you to keep the law, just as Ishmael, the child born by human effort, persecuted Isaac, the child born by the power of the Spirit. But what do the Scriptures say about that? “Get rid of the slave and her son, for the son of the slave woman will not share the inheritance with the free woman's son.” So, dear brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman; we are children of the free woman.
