  2. Dental Cavities • Dental caries or cavities are the result of tooth decay, which is very prevalent among kids from infancy to adolescence. A study shows that around 60 to 90 percent of children around the world have cavities. • No one likes to have cavities because they are uncomfortable, painful, and the related treatment is expensive. Fortunately, they are easy to avoid.

  3. For parents, you need to educate your children about the importance of dental care to prevent cavities and other oral ailments.

  4. What Really Causes Cavities? • The main cause of dental caries is the person’s poor oral hygiene. It’s common among children to not brush their teeth on a daily basis, as much as possible they do everything to avoid the mandatory two times a day dental routine. The two keys to good dental hygiene are brushing and flossing. If any of these two were skipped, your child is inviting tooth decay. • The consumption of sugary foods is another leading cause of tooth decay among the kids because they contain a high level of sugar. Remember that mouth bacteria thrive on sugar and produce acid which erodes the dentin and enamel of the tooth.

  6. Proper Dental Hygiene • You win almost half of the battle against cavities if you can encourage your children to practice the habit of proper dental hygiene. • The ideal way is to regularly brush the teeth after every meal. But, flossing at least once a day and brushing two times a day for at least 2-minute is a must.

  7. Healthy Diet • If you’re a parent, you should monitor what your child is eating. Most of the foods that contain starch or sugar contribute to acid production in their mouth, which is detrimental to the enamel of the tooth. • For limited exposure, foods such as cookies, sodas, candies, and other confectioneries should only be consumed occasionally. Don’t let your child consume this frequently because they increase the acid attack on their teeth.

  8. Regular Dental Check up • Most dental patients don’t visit their dentists unless something is wrong with their gums or teeth. • However, it is suggested to take your child to the dentist as soon as their first tooth erupts. In addition, a twice a year dental visits are needed for dental examination and cleaning.
