  1. 5 Dental Care Tips For People With Diabetes

  2. Dental Care For People With Diabetes • People with diabetes are at an increased risk for several oral health issues. • For example, medications can cause dry mouth, which in turn can make your teeth more susceptible to acid attacks and cavities. • That being said, if you have diabetes, you need to constantly monitor your blood sugar level as well as your oral health.

  3. Here are some Important Dental Care Tips Worth Practicing for People With Diabetes:

  4. Drink Plenty Of Water • Staying hydrated with water keeps your mouth moist and prevents dry mouth and bad breath. • It also helps remineralize and strengthen the teeth enamel. The enamel replenishes lost minerals. But if it loses a lot faster than it can regain, acid attacks can beat it down. • Tooth decay and cavities can occur as a result.

  5. Monitor Blood Sugar Levels • It takes harder to heal with poor sugar levels. If you have upcoming dental procedures or would like to get one, coordinate closely with your dental team. Take care of your diet as well. • Your treatment may have to be delayed if your blood sugar level is unhealthy as this can interfere with your recovery. • You need to maintain a good blood sugar level at all times not only for your oral health but for your general health as well.

  6. Brush After Every Meal • Make it a habit to brush properly after every meal. But be sure to wait for at least 30 minutes before cleaning your teeth. • Teeth are sensitive right after meals as acid in the food softens the enamel. If you brush right away, the enamel may only weaken and erode. • When you brush, spend at least two minutes, making sure to cover all areas, especially the surfaces and back portion.

  7. Floss And Rinse • Complement your brushing with flossing. Brushing alone isn’t enough to remove debris that may have been stuck between teeth. • Flossing also helps target buildup along the gumline. Rinse your mouth daily too. Choose an antiseptic mouthwash without alcohol to help fight harmful bacteria and cavities. • Take note, though, that rinsing isn’t a substitute to flossing.

  8. Inspect Gums Regularly • Always inspect your teeth for signs of gum disease, such as sensitivity, tenderness, loose teeth, and bleeding. • Let your dentist know if you notice any changes or abnormality in your mouth. • Early diagnosis is crucial so you can get any issues treated immediately and keep them from progressing.
