  2. What Is Shaken Baby Syndrome? • Shaken Baby Syndrome is the term used to describe the injuries babies and very young children sustain from being violently shaken.

  3. Statistics • One shaken baby in four dies • Of thousands that survive death, serious injury usually occurs. • More than 60% of the victims of Shaken Baby Syndrome are male • Almost 80% of the perpetrators of Shaken Baby Syndrome are male

  4. What to do Instead • Play music • Gently rock or walk the baby • Give the baby a pacifier • Ask a Friend to “take over” for a while • Put the baby in the crib and leave the room for a few minutes to cool down • Take the baby for a walk outside • Take the baby for a ride in the car

  5. Effects of Shaken Baby Syndrome • Blindness • Mental Retardation • Coma • Cerebral Palsy • Vegetative state • Seizures • Hearing Loss • Speech Difficulties • DEATH
