IAQ & YOU The Palm Beach County School District has developed and implemented a nationally recognized Indoor Air Quality Program (IAQ) to provide a healthy environment for our students and staff. Our IAQ program was recognized with the “Excellence Award” by the EPA Tools for Schools. Because IAQ problems can result in poor academicperformance and absences related to asthma, respiratory infections, allergic reactions and other symptoms, we can all play an important role in promoting and maintaining healthy indoor air. The following list provides DOs and DON’Ts to ensure good IAQ in schools. DOs Control moisture, mold, and mildew: Do report spills and leaks promptly. Do keep exterior doors and windows closed Do keep classrooms clean. Do keep temperature between 75°F and 78°F. Do adhere to IAQ Policy 7.195. DON’Ts Do not add potential allergens to the environment: • Don’t bring cleaning products from home. • Don’t use scented candles and air fresheners. • Don’t house pets in the classrooms for extended periods of time. • Don’t use markers with toxic ingredients (such as EXPO). Use EXPO 2 – Low Odor instead. • Don’t bring in bug sprays & pesticides. • Don’t use carpeting, pillows, stuffed animals, tennis balls. • Being guardians of proper IAQ in our classrooms is a valuable and worthy cause to keep students and staff healthy. Let us all contribute to maintain Healthy Schools in Palm Beach County!!! • For more information or to contribute ideas, please contact • Environmental Control at • 684-5154 or px 45154
