We are we today? • Span multiple security domains • Discovered over 250 different producers of Intelligence • 60,000+ users at the Top Secret level. Potential growth to over 250,000 users at the Secret level • Millions of documents and hundreds of databases accessible online
Our Problems • No centralized client authentication • No guaranteed crisis information availability • Network outages, servers down • Information timeliness concerns; days to index • Intelligence scattered • Information management still deficient • No good process for determining usability of product

We’re Looking for New Ideas • Phrase Enhanced Search (PES) - Extracted high quality phrase information from files using University of Arizona Noun Phrase Extraction software • High quality phrases are placed in a searchable database. • User searches using simple concepts - “aircraft”, “tank”, “cargo”. • Phrases are returned that match these simple concepts. • User can then select from these returns phrases that match the information they are looking for. • These selected phrases are passed to a full featured search engine such as AltaVista for actual returns.
Where to go from here? • We need to continue to evolve • We need new ideas on information discovery and management • We’ll never catch the Internet wave but we hope to always follow it
