  1. SHARE data cleaning meeting Antwerp – February, 7 Some findings from the W2 Income Imputation – rel. 0 Paccagnella Omar Omar Paccagnella Data cleaning meeting February 7, 2008

  2. This presentation summarizes some inconsistency problems we have found generating the imputed income variables Examples of variables that could be checked (list of priorities?) Omar Paccagnella Data cleaning meeting February 7, 2008

  3. Consistency between amount of pension payment & frequency • EP078_?? question: typical payment of a pension last year • EP074_?? question: period covered by this payment • Check the consistency between these 2 variables • (e.g. there is a yearly amount & a monthly period) • Look at the typical annual amount (payment x frequency): • are there values too low/large? • Note: the univariate distribution for each variable can be ok ! Omar Paccagnella Data cleaning meeting February 7, 2008

  4. 2) Consistency between final bracket of pension payment and frequency As before, but regarding the UB’s sequence ! EP215_?? variable: typical payment of a pension last year - bracket information Omar Paccagnella Data cleaning meeting February 7, 2008

  5. 3) Worker and income from work in the previous year EP005_ : current occupational status  worker EP204_ : annual income from employment last year EP206_ : annual income from self-employment last year About 20% of workers do not have any income from employment or self-employment ! Probably because of a change in the text of EP204_ question Omar Paccagnella Data cleaning meeting February 7, 2008

  6. Many respondents answered in details to the current job questions, providing exact payment amount, frequency of payment, number of months of receiving the payment; they have working continuously since the last interview or the year of starting the job is before 2005  True workers ! A quick fix was done 2 weeks ago, but it doesn’t take into account additional payments ! Omar Paccagnella Data cleaning meeting February 7, 2008

  7. Please : • check whether the country specific question could have been misunderstood; • using all information regarding current job, provide an estimate of the annual income (additional payments?); • for respondents who have not worked continuously in the previous year, using information on the spells for this estimate. • Be careful to the interviews done in January ! Omar Paccagnella Data cleaning meeting February 7, 2008

  8. 4) Worker and income from work in the previous year (2) EP005_ : current occupational status  worker EP204_ : annual income from employment last year EP206_ : annual income from self-employment last year Some workers have income from employment or self-employment, but they report a 0 amount ! EP204_ : cannot be zero  to be imputed EP206_ : can be zero  look at the numbers Omar Paccagnella Data cleaning meeting February 7, 2008
