Block Day • Class: What are your OVERALL IMPRESSIONS of life in Great Britain from the mid 1700s to the late 1800s? Why? • Class: We will begin to watch “Just the Facts: The Industrial Revolution” DVD. • As we do, you are to take notes in the provided 5 Ws and How and the Causes and Effects Graphic Organizers.
Block Day • Homework: Read and Talk to the Text on the provided supplemental reading. • Night One: Do pages 1-6 • Night Two: Do pages 7-11 • Night Three: Do pages 12-15
Wednesday, Feb 22, 2012 • Pair-Share: Turn to your partner and share your DVD notes. • Make additions and revisions as needed. • Class: Ms. Barben is going to do her Powerpoint on the Industrial Revolution and Why it developed in Great Britain. As she does, you should be doing the Interactive Notebook Method with the provided teacher notes. • Must use at least THREE different methods throughout on the Left Side. • There should be no gaps or blank spaces on the Left Side. • On the Right Side, information should be highlighted, starred, and have additional historical facts added. • You must do BOTH SIDES on each page.

Friday, Feb 24, 2012 • Ms. Barben is going to collect the Talking to the Text. • Class: While Ms. Barben finishes her Powerpoint, you will finish your Interactive Notes. • Homework: Create a Metaphorical Representation examining why the Industrial Revolution began in Great Britain and the impact it had. • You may select one of the following to complete the statement or come up with your own for bonus points. • Complete the following statement: “The development of the Industrial Revolution in Great Britain over other European nations was like”: • Putting together all the pieces of a puzzle. • Having all the gourmet ingredients to create a lavish feast. • The competition between siblings as the older sibling gets the new clothes, car, etc…while the younger siblings get the hand-me downs. • Come up with your own for bonus points. • It can be a metaphor, simile, or analogy.

This means using historical images of key people, beliefs, and ideas of the Industrial Revolution and why it began in Great Britain. • Examples: images of inventors and inventions, images relating to the economic conditions, etc… • You must incorporate specific historical terms and words into the drawing as well as historical images of key people, beliefs, and ideas of the Industrial Revolution and why it began in Great Britain • It may be hand-drawn or generated on the computer. • You must use historical images…it cannot all be drawn by hand. • You must address ALL of the following: Agricultural Revolution, Economic Conditions, Physical Geography and Natural Resources, Large Available Workforce, Social Factors, Openness to New Ideas, Political Stability and Government • Do this in color and on a blank piece of paper.
Friday, Feb 24, 2012 • On the back of your metaphorical representation: • You must provide THREE typed well-developed paragraphs explaining the metaphor and how it represents the cause and effect relationship of why the Industrial Revolution began in Great Britain and the impact it had. • A well-developed paragraph consists of a minimum of EIGHT compound sentences. • You must provide analysis of the supportive illustration as well. • Do not just list or refer casually to the historical information in the illustration, but explain how they each played a role in the development of the Industrial Revolution and the changes this period brought to the world. • You must explain and provide examples for each of the seven factors for why the Industrial Revolution began in Great Britain first. • First Paragraph: You explain the metaphor, analogy, or simile breaking down the literary and visual aspects to show how it represents the historical content. • Second Paragraph: You explore in more depth the reasons 1-3 with explanations and examples. • Third Paragraph: You explore in more depth the reasons 4-7 with explanations and examples. • Be sure to edit for spelling, grammar, and capitalization errors!
