  4. A brief history Motown which was also know as motown tamala, then urbanized into the Motown Record Corporation was founded by a man named Berry Gordy on the 12th January 1965 . Motown was originally based in Detroit Michigan which was outside the north of America. Motown was the very first record label to be owned by an African American to feature mainly African American artist who achieved crossover success, It made black popular music acceptable to white audiences for the first time. Motown became a very successful soul music based record label that was then transformed to the motown sound which gave it a very unique pop effect. Motown has owned or distributed releases from more than 45 subsidiaries in varying genres, although it is most famous for its releases in the music genres of rhythm and blues, soul, hip hop and pop. Motown Records left Detroit for Los Angeles in 1972, and remained an independent company until June 28, 1988, when Gordy sold the company to MCA and Boston Ventures

  5. Key artist!!! Marie Dionne Warrick on December 12, 1940 an American singer, actress, activist female vocalist with the most Billboard Hot 100 chart hits during the rock era (1955-1999). The artist scored crossover hits on the Rhythm & Blues charts and the Adult Contemporary charts Her first solo single for Scepter Records was released in November, 1962. The song was entitled "Don't Make Me Over", Warrick's name was misspelled on the single's label, and she began using the new spelling (i.e., "Warwick") both professionally and personally. Warwick was named the Bestselling Female Vocalist in the Cash Box Magazine Poll in 1964, with six chart hits in that year. The mid 1960s to early 1970s became an even more successful time period for Warwick, who saw a string of Gold selling albums and Top 20 and Top 10 hit singles. Later that same year, Warwick earned her first RIAA Gold Single for US sales of over one million units for the single "I Say a Little Prayer

  6. Key industrial figures Berry Gordy-founder of motown In 1959, Billy Davis and Berry Gordy's sisters Gwen and Anna started Anna Records. Davis and Gwen Gordy wanted Berry to be the company president, but Berry wanted to strike out on his own. Smokey Robinson became the vice president of the company Among the studio Gordy's practice of using a highly select and tight-knit group of studio musicians, collectively known as "The Funk Brothers", to record the instrumental or "band" tracks of the Motown songs musicians responsible for the "Motown Sound" were keyboardists Earl Van Dyke, Johnny Griffith, and Joe Hunter; guitarists Joe Messina, Robert White, and Eddie Willis; percussionists Eddie "Bongo" Brown and Jack Ashford; drummers Benny Benjamin, Uriel Jones, and Richard "Pistol" Allen; and bassists James Jamerson and Bob Babbitt. From 1961 to 1971, Motown had 110 Top Ten hits, and artists such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross & The Supremes, The Four Tops, and The Jackson 5,. A third label, which Gordy named after himself, featured The Temptations, The Contours, and Martha and the Vandellas. A fourth, V.I.P., released recordings by The Velvelettes and The Spinners, and a fifth, Soul, featured Jr. Walker & the All Stars, Jimmy Ruffin, and Gladys Knight & the Pips

  7. Audience/fans-who are they? Demographics • there's a variety of different people across the world who listen to motown, it is a very broad appeal genre. It is Generally listened to by black Americans, For the reason it began in America. • young people in the early teens to around their late 20’s usually working class tend to listen to this kind of music . Over the world it varies the different genders that listen to motown because some countries, motown and soul is for the people who grew up during the reign of motown whereas others may not listen to motown because it is old school. Statistics show that many young black people in generally seem to have a lot of interest in the genre motown.

Magazine coverage To find a magazine of the genre motown seemed to cause a big problem because there were no motown magazines out in the stores and the last they had of any sort was all sold out and the new edition of that music mag had come out meaning I was not able to get not a single copy of a magazine for motown .so I had to look on the net Here I found that rhythm and blues along with soul had a connection so i took some parts of the information of the magazine I found on rhythm and blues magazine found on the internet .
