  4. Introductions • Your name? • What community do you live in? • Why are you interested in participating in the collaborative? • What is something you’d like the group to know about you? • What is something that makes you difficult to work with?

  5. Ground Rules & Principles • Ground rules outline the behaviors and procedures all participants are expected to follow. • Behavioral expectations: how will participants relate to and treat each other? • Procedural protocols: decision making, information sharing, participant roles. • Substantive issues: what issues are on the table for discussion. • Guiding principles outline what values the group uses to inform their work. • Guiding Principles: What are the values, beliefs or principles that should guide our work together?

  6. Ground Rules Respect other participants Personal attacks and name-calling will not be tolerated Recognize the legitimacy of other viewpoints Respect the facilitator and the agenda Come to meetings prepared Stay on topic Refrain from side conversations-share it with the whole group!

  7. Guiding Principles • All efforts will be focused on Trinity County • Efforts will address community wellbeing and safety • Efforts will strive to balance environmental, economic and social concerns • The collaborative will strive to be as inclusive and transparent as possible

Decision Making Procedure • What is consensus: • Widespread agreement among all members of a group. • A decision all participants can support, or at least live with. • How will we know if we have reached consensus? • 100% support, majority support, % support? • How will disagreement be handled? • See level of agreement handouts. • How will we vote? • Show of hands, aye/nay, cast ballot, straw poll?

Vision, Mission & Goals • Vision: What is the Collaboratives ideal situation? • If our success could be guaranteed, what would be the end result of our efforts? • Mission: What is the Collaboratives purpose? • What we will do (action), Why we will do this (result) & Who the work will benefit (for whom). • Goals: What are the objectives of the Collaborative?

Organizational Structure • The Trinity Collaborative will act as an advisory group to the Trinity County Board of Supervisors. • Structural Options: • Open participation, selected representatives, or elected board. • Permanent committees or ad hoc task groups. • Permanent or ad hoc expertise panel/technical advisors.

Participant Requirements& Responsibilities • Criteria to be a participant: • Attendance based or other • Responsibilities of a participant: • Support the vision, mission & goals of the collaborative • Commit to regular attendance • Follow ground rules • Role of government agencies: • Board of Supervisors • USFS • BLM
