Bacteriophage • Require bacterial cells to grow • We’ll focus on the T2 phage. • It consists of 2 main parts • Head: Icosahedral shape • Tail: hollow tube. • DNA is in the head, and the shell is made of protein. • It survives by the ‘Lytic Cycle’!

Hershey & Chases' Experiment • Radioactive sulfur (protein) is found • predominantly in the supernatant. • Radioactive phosphorus (DNA) is found • predominantly in the cell fraction.
