  3. How did it happen? • Films have shot in Michigan since 1946 • Famous films include Somewhere in Time, Beverly Hills Cop, and Escanaba in Da Moonlight • Our state has interesting terrain, weather, rural, small towns, big cities and everything in between! • New “Incentive Package” Legislation

  4. A Look at the Incentives • Film and Digital Media Production • Infrastructure Development • Financing • Workforce Development • 40% Refundable or Transferable Tax Credit • 25% Tax Credit for Infrastructure Investments

  7. What Studio Folks are Thinking • This creates “buzz” • It is “intriguing”…everyone is interested in Hollywood • Money, Money, Money • You don’t have to do a thing

  8. How to Get Prepared • Begin conversations and board discussions • Overall Philosophy (revenue enhancement or building stewards?) • Review and/or modify Board Policy • Assign a Go-To Person • Make a Plan

  9. Looking at Policy • Do you have written guidelines/practices? • What is your Fee Structure? • Who Reviews Contracts? • What Costs Should be Associated? • Insurance Requirements?

  10. A Movie is Coming to Town! How does the process work? What can you expect?

  11. Positives • Gets people inside the schools • Possible curricular ties…especially to art/drama students • Revenue Enhancement • Ties your town/district to something “bigger” • Community Commerce • Really Interesting Experience

  12. Pitfalls • Community discourse – different philosophy • Outside Control • Difficult to make “Hollywood” follow district rules – no smoking! • They move at their own pace • District may not know end result
