  4. Fruit and Vegetable Nutrition Coordinator • Lead efforts for fruit and vegetable consumption in the state • Go-to person for FVMM logo • Participate in conference calls with other coordinators across the country

  5. September is… • National Fruits & Veggies-More Matters month • Theme for 2009 is “How to Stretch Your Fruit and Vegetable Budget” • www.cdc.gov

  9. Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program • Administered by USDA to promote consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables for students K-8 • 51 schools participating in Arizona for 2009-2010 school year • Over 26,500 students across the state will participate in the program

  10. AZNN’s role Identify nutrition education materials to supplement the program Present information to school personnel at ADE training Distribute materials to all participating schools Work with partners to assist schools in their efforts Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program

Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program • Plans for 2009-2010 school year • Send small educational items and posters for kickoff event at the beginning of the year • Provide schools with educational items and ideas on how to use them in the classroom throughout the school year • Provide handouts for parents
