  1. ‘”you have a voice!” a national kiosk network for distributing information to rural communities and getting information FROM those communities.

  2. the problem • women in rural communities lack: • timely access to accurate information • literacy in written language and technology • ability to communicate outside their village • safe space to report issues • We believe we have a solution that is a “win” for multiple NGO’s, Tech Camp, and most importantly Cambodian society

  3. the solution • information kiosks placed (initially) in health centers • kiosks allow people to: • view public service announcement videos specifically targeted to their location, gender, and role (father, mother, student) • submit a spoken report of crime or other problems • view video library of past PSA’s • powered by an inexpensive 3G-enabled tablet running an app • simple interface with vocal prompts • booth designed to provide privacy (sight and sound) • trained assistant available (from VHSG or Youth Peer Ed.?) • updates daily via 3G connection

  4. very simple to use • “login”by selecting buttons representing your demographic (picture automatically taken to aid in follow-up if needed?) • announce and inform: 2 targeted PSA’s • choices: • report (crime, corruption, etc) • take survey (govt. spending, future PSA topics, etc) • view video library of past PSA’s

  5. technology used • tablet • “you have a voice!” kiosk app • 3g network • video production facility

  6. Relevant links/resources • app developer • partner NGO’s representing domestic violence, health education, etc • existing phone hotlines • government cooperation (especially with reporting crime and domestic violence)

  7. Follow-up actions • Creation of a pilot project: • Start with 10 kiosks • Securing funding from USAID, Microsoft, or similar • Creation of app (off-the-shelf?) • assemble small management team who will collect data and coordinate NGO’s for development of PSA videos • assemble very small IT/maintenance team

  8. Information is key to empowerment Dialogue is key to change
