The group established local business partners
Increased community awareness about the hands-on approach
State of the art classroom
Fourteen students were enrolled in the course for the first year. From the group of 14 the CTE Director and facilitator agree that specific courses are necessary for the success of all students. One student had ˝ credit in Keyboarding and that’s all the coursework that related to business. Accounting and computer applications are essential courses for HCHS students (based on our course offerings). Five of the students have been members of FLBA and competed in numerous competitions. Their knowledge from the contest guidelines and studies increase his/her opportunity for success.
Mrs. Teresa Creasy, Design Team Company, Human Resource Manager along with Mrs. Paige Stockton, Wood-Morton Real Estate, Office Manager participated in the interview process for the students. Students had to formally apply for his/her position. Each student had to complete an application, address cover letters to each interviewer, and include a formal resume. Student packets were delivered by the facilitator for prior assessment (rubric provided for each component. Students received a grade on each component from both interviewers). All interviews were conducted three days after the receipt of the packets to allow for grading. FBLA guidelines for Job Interview were followed during each interview. The interviewers completed rubrics on each student and collaborated on job recommendations. The students were assigned to his/her position according to the interviewers scores and recommendation. This allowed the facilitator to give the students a real-world experience on the outcomes for job openings.
Local businesses had the opportunity to meet our students during formal meetings. The students contacted local businesses about the course and participated in our virtual business contracts. The contracts must be 75% of your employees salaries for the year. Contracts are sent via email to the state director who deposits the monies into our main account.
Throughout the year our local newspaper included articles about our students activities and successes.

Schedule of events provided
Fellow VE facilitator @ Lawrence County recommended that we host a Parent Night to give the parents a better idea of what to expect. Ideally, the best time to do this would be in the spring (if we could select our students via application process). Parents have an opportunity to began fundraising planning and etc. Fundraising was an absolute no for this group. The parents wanted the cheapest way for his/her child but lacked the motivation to raise funds.
This will be an annual meeting at the beginning of each school year.Fellow VE facilitator @ Lawrence County recommended that we host a Parent Night to give the parents a better idea of what to expect. 10. Our Challenges Challenges:
Time has been a tremendous challenge due to facilitator and CTE director’s responsibilities outside of school.
Company website installation onto the school server. County technology coordinator was extremely difficult to schedule time with our webmaster. A fellow student located another option to use for our website. The delay was a negative flag on our profits for several months due to no website for global purchases.
Promethean software issues with compatibility programs. Facilitator is scheduled for additional training July 31, 2009.
Facilitator would like to attend a thorough Photoshop workshop.
Both the facilitator and students are learning at the same time.
Student enthusiasm throughout the semester.
Dual-Enrollment courses with JSCC in Marketing and/or Management areas. Facilitator is studying the CLEP manuals for both exams. The facilitator was the west TN research coordinator regarding CLEP testing. Spreadsheet from facilitator’s findings was submitted to the state director to be compiled with the middle and east findings. Several universities offer the CLEP exams and accept them in some form or fashion. The average cost is $75-$90 with additional fees per location. Motivating the students go the extra mile and study the CLEP materials both during and outside of class time. It would great to attend a CLEP workshop for both courses to prepare the facilitator for instructional purposes.
Learning the tasks and duties of the VE course for the students and teacher.
Students being willing to do outside research for the company business plan.
Local participants for Virtual Business Contracts.
Scheduling students who had completed academic and/or business courses.
Pulling resources together for the students in our area.

11. Advice Our program had our ups and downs during the first year. Doing our homework allowed us to keep our initial grant proposal as written. Only modifications requested were from allocated funds not used to date. The request was approved and additional equipment and supplies were purchased at the end of the semester. Local BOE is currently awaiting invoices for payment own three items.
