  9. (Job 41:12-14) I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion. Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double bridle? Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about.

  10. NOTES • He has done a great job, because most Christians don’t even know that Job 41 is descriptive of Satan.’ • Job 41 is a detailed description of the way God sees him • Without Job 41 we would never see him like this, because of The way he reveals himself.

  11. (2Co 11:13-15) For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Pergamos • During this church period Satan pulls off the greatest, slickest, and smoothest scheme since the Garden of Eden • During the 1st two church periods Satan’s face or garments were that of a roaring lion (II peter 5:8) • But during this church period Satan changes his face to an Angel of Light or a Minster of Righteousness (2 Cor. 11)

THE TENTH PERSECUTION, UNDER DIOCLETIAN, 303 AD The whole of this transaction was in the presence of Diocletian and Galerius, who, not contented with burning the books, had the church levelled with the ground. This was followed by a severe edict, commanding the destruction of all other Christian churches and books; and an order soon succeeded, to render Christians of all denomination outlaws.

THE TENTH PERSECUTION, UNDER DIOCLETIAN, 303 AD All the Christians were apprehended and imprisoned; and Galerius privately ordered the imperial palace to be set on fire, that the Christians might be charged as the incendiaries, and a plausible pretence given for carrying on the persecution with the greater severities. A general sacrifice was commenced, which occasioned various martyrdoms. No distinction was made of age or sex; the name of Christian was so obnoxious to the pagans that all indiscriminately fell sacrifices to their opinions. Many houses were set on fire, and whole Christian families perished in the flames; and others had stones fastened about their necks, and being tied together were driven into the sea. The persecution became general in all the Roman provinces, but more particularly in the east; and as it lasted ten years, it is impossible to ascertain the numbers martyred, or to enumerate the various modes of martyrdom.

  24. THE BATTLE FOR BECOMING THE NEXT ROMAN EMPEROR

  25. Pergamos • The 2 most powerful men vying for the job was Maxentius and a very important man as far as Church history is concerned- Constantine • These men meet about 10 mile north of Rome in 312 A D • It is know as the battle of Milvian Bridge

Pergamos • Constantine supposedly has a vision in the sky of a cross, and hears a voice saying “In hoc signovinces” or in this sign you will conquer. • He says the sign of the cross that he saw was made up of the 1st two letters of the name “Christ” • The Greek “CHI” which looks like our letter “X” • The Greek “RHO” which is like our letter “P”

  28. Pergamos • Constantine wins the battle and becomes the emperor of Rome • At this time Constantine claims to be a Christian! • All with the fact that almost every church historian writes about this time as his conversion to Christianity

  29. Warning! How do we judge all experiences?

  30. (Joh 7:24) Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. (Gal 1:8) But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spakeas they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Pergamos • He erects a statue of himself in Rome, with across in his right hand and the inscription… • “By virtue of this salutary sign, which is the true symbol of valor, I have preserved and liberated your city from the yoke of tyranny” • After seeing the vision of the cross he puts crosses on all helmets and shields of all the soldiers • After this all true Romans will fight under that symbol…

  42. Pergamos • In 313 AD he sends out an edict called the “Edict of Milan” • It grants Christian absolute religious liberty. • It restores property that was confiscated during the former persecutions • Pagan temples that were offensive to the Christians were destroyed

  43. Pergamos • Christian Clergy were exempted from military and municipal duties and their property was exempt from taxes. And were soon paid by the State, thus resulting in a privileged class above the law of the land. (Jesse Lyman Huribut D. D. The Story of Christian Church pg.60) • By 321 AD Sunday is proclaimed as a day of rest and worship.

  44. Pergamos • By 324 AD he is promising 20 pieces of Gold and a brand New white Baptismal robe for any one that would convert to Christianity • To him “convert” meant to be baptized • The 1st year in Rome 12,000 men were baptized (not including women or children)

  45. Pergamos • What was really happening was that the “church” was being flooded with Paganism. • All of the traditions and holidays and worship of the pagans was brought into the Church.
