Recognition of Commitment • St. Ciaran’s Primary School achieved the Recognition of Commitment in November 2011. We achieved this award by: • setting up a Rights Respecting School Steering Group, comprising of adults and children; • organising focus groups for each class in the school; • writing an action plan; • informing the whole school community of our plans.
Working towards Level 1 • We are learning about the UNCRC in class and working hard to develop and maintain a rights-respecting school community. • We are taking an active role in our learning. • We understand the importance of global justice and sustainable living and are fully committed to upholding the rights of everyone, locally and globally. • We hope to evaluate our progress shortly and apply for our Level 1 assessment. • We have been participating in many activities, organised by pupils, teachers, parents and adults in the community. have a classroom charter in each classroom in the school; • have a scrapbook in each classroom which shows off our hard work on the UNCRC; • write for the CDDA newsletter; • send photographs of our activities to the local newspaper; • take part in assemblies; • fundraise for charities such as Trocaire, Marie Curie and Habitat for Humanity; • have links with two other schools, St. Mochta’s Primary School, Dublin and Carrowreagh Primary School, Ballymoney; • have links with environmental groups, such as The National Trust. In the very near future, we hope to: • organise friendship stops for our school playground; • develop a playground charter; • take part in the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland; • continue our hard work!
