Traditional Approach Read the assigned article. Write a first draft of a 7-paragraph response to the article. Article should include at least 7 sentences that contain collective or compound nouns. UDL Approach Students work in groups to research and discuss the newspaper article about the students' accident and teenage driving statistics. Article can be read online or on paper Students decide on their approach to the assignment then work alone or with a group to identify the main points they might address in their articles. Students use word processing, speech-to-text, or handwriting to create a first draft. Article should include sentences with compound and collective nouns. Students revise their draft in consultation with peers and/or the teacher. Students choose to submit their article to the school newspaper for publication or present it orally or in written form to their classmates.
