Konya is located in the heart of the Anatolian plateau located 3 hours driving distance from capital city of Ankara to the South and it is one of Turkey’s oldest inhabited sites . Today its population is 2 million . Konya was the capital of the Seljuk Turk Sultanate

From the 12th to the 13th century , Konya was the capital of the “Seljuk Turks” an done of the greatest cultural center of Anatolia , who sought to achieve ecstasy and unity with God through controlled trance-like spinning .
It was during this period that the Muslim mystic “Mevlana Celaddiin-i Rumi”founded the sect of ‘Whirling Dervishes’
Mevlana Teachings expressed that love is the path to spiritual growth and insight . CLIMATE OF KONYA • Konya has hot and dry summers with an average of 30°C (86°F). However, usually temperatures are much higher and quite often reach +40°C (104°F). The highest temperature recorded in Konya was 40.6°C (105.08°F) on 30/07/2000. Konya has cold to freezing winters with high snowfall in the extreme months. The average temperature in the winter is -4.2°C (24.44°F) but often are much colder. The coldest temperature recorded in Konya was -25.8°C (-14.44°F) on 25/01/1989.

ALAADDIN MOSQUE AND PALACE Which are fine 13th century monuments built during the reign of the famous Seljuk Sultan “Alaaddin Keykubat” museum located on “Aladdin Hill”
KARATAY MEDRESE Constructed i n A.D. 1251 and stands to the North of Aladdin Hill and is now a museumwhich holds the best examples of Seljuk tiles and ceramics
THE ATATÜRK MUSEUM Built in 1912 , this house was presented to Ataturk by the people of Konya in 1928 , and opened to the public as a museum in 1964 . Clothing , personal belongings , photographs , and documents are on display .
THE THIN MINARET Built during the reign of the Seljuk ruler Izzettin Keykavus II by the vezir Sahip Ata Fahrettin as a medrese , it became a public museum in50’s . It houses wooden and Stone Works of the Seljuk period .
