Trails: 5k and 10k trails are available. (Participants can complete 20k for no extra charge.) Trails are mostly along natural paths, but also a paved park road and short paved trail. Trail Rating: 1B. Pets will be allowed on a leash, and there will be restrooms near the start/finish point and along the route. (strollers: difficult for 5k/10k; wheelchairs: no for 5k/10k; pets: yes; restrooms: yes) Guided Walk: For those walkers who prefer walking with others, we are offering a guided group walk beginning at 9:30. Special Programs: Virginia Counties - Stafford Award: This is a B award event. IVV Books and Credit:This event counts towards the acquisition of IVV Achievement awards. Distance and Event Books and New Walker Packets will be for sale at the event. Procedures: At the start of the walk, you will receive a start card; fill in your name and other requested information. Carry the card with you and fill it in as needed at the checkpoints. Each participant may only fill out one card. Turn the card in at the finish point so the sponsors can keep track of those still out on the trail. NOTE: All walkers must sign a waiver of liability before participating. Refreshments: Water and candy will be provided at no charge at the start/ finish point and checkpoint. You are invited to join GVA for a picnic in the park! If the walk is cancelled due to weather, GVA will provide refunds. Parking: Parking is located at the Start/Finish point –Shelter 6. After entering park, turn left following signs to the Gauntlet Golf Course. You’ll see Shelter 6 on the left. Look for the volksmarch signs. PICNIC Everyone is invited to stay for the picnic. GVA will provide our famous brats, hot dogs and sauerkraut as well as plates and utensils. We’re asking everyone to bring a side dish or dessert to share as well as their own drink. Curtis Park offers golf, swimming, fishing, and sport facilities (fees may apply) or visit the Hartwood Winery and Hartwood Roses (which you passed on the left on your way to the park) either before or after the picnic.
