  5. What is a rhyme? • A rhyme is a repetition of sounds in two or more words or phrases.

  6. Basketball The bounce of the ball Either short or tall Will make it to the rim From the effort within

  7. Wintertime The fire glows in the fireplace The snow is falling on the ground The winter wind whipping at your face The atmosphere is happy all around

  9. Rhyme Scheme • A rhyme scheme is the pattern the rhyming words take at the end of the linesin poems.

  10. Basketball The bounce of the ball -A Either short or tall -A Will make it to the rim -B From the effort within -B

  11. Wintertime The fire glows in the fireplace -A The snow is falling on the ground -B The winter wind whipping at your face -A The atmosphere is happy all around -B

  12. Learning Activity • Write a four line poem about your favorite hobby using your list of words from the “Do Now”. • Make sure to include one of the two rhyme schemes (AABB or ABAB).

  14. Homework • Please make a final copy of your poem to be handed in. • Include an appropriate title • Edit and correct any mistakes • Use your creativity to decorate

  15. Exit Slip • Take out a piece of paper and write what you have learned in today’s lesson.

  16. Extra Credit! • Write a four-line poem, including one of the rhyme schemes that were covered in class. • Label the rhyme scheme with the appropriate letters (AABB or ABAB)
