  2. Assessment 2: Report • In a university undergraduate report writing competition you have been required to write a piece highlighting the factors that have shaped the contemporary tourism and hospitality industries taking into cognisance development in the last fifty years.

  3. You may want to... • Plan, plan, plan • Read round the topic • Avoid reliance on non-academic internet sources – source for a wide range of relevant material. • Start thinking about a range of examples you will use in supporting your points. • Get yourself familiar with how to write coherently in report format • Get familiar with Harvard referencing style

  4. You may want to... • An introduction to the report, including an outline of your aims and a contextualised background of the topic. • A succinct history of tourism and hospitality • A profile of a range of factors that have contributed, over the years, to shaping the tourism and hospitality industries. • An explanation of the factors identified (in 3) above strengthened by the use of relevant examples and academic source material. • A conclusion that draws together the main points made in the report.

  5. Guideline • Weight: 60% • Word limit: 2000 • Date: Tuesday 29th April 2014 • Submission: e-submission – see WOLF topic.

  6. Quality of your work… • Discussion (including application of concepts, theories and models) • Evidence of reading and research (including use of literature) • Structure and organisation (comprising flow of argument, linking of ideas introduction and conclusion) • Quality of academic writing (i.e. referencing, style, grammar and spelling)
