1. Objective: To create a symbol of the theme in your book; to write a letter from the main character’s point of view expressing what he/she has learned as a result of his/her experiences. • Steps to Success: • Look through your book examining the main character’s behaviors, choices, and thoughts in the book. Show what they learned from their experiences to help others understand important life lessons by sending a “message in a bottle.” • 2. Decorate the soda bottle with six symbols that relate to the main character’s message and to the theme of the story. In addition, attach two chunky adjectives that describe the main character and two verbs that the main character might be found doing at one point. • 3. “Walk in the main character’s shoes” by writing a one page letter from the main character’s point of view. It should express his/her feelings about life lessons learned throughout the course of the book. Use the sample letter attached as a model taken from the novel Because of Winn Dixie. • 4.
