Examples: • Exercise equipment • First aid supplies • Medicines • Foods
It is important to use health products, and to be able to recognize them!
ALWAYS have adult supervision when taking medication and other health products!
To care for minor injuries: • Wash your hands • Wash off injury • Apply antibiotic or approved natural aid, such as aloe vera plant. 4. Apply Bandage 5. FEEL BETTER!!!
Health products keep you safe when you are in vehicles, too!
Encourage your family members to buy and eat nutrient dense foods, too! • Avoid eating foods, or vitamin supplements, that may have ingredients you are allergic to!
Because everyone selects, buys and uses health products, everyone is a consumer!
There are many different types of health products: • Benefit health (exercise equipment) • Benefit health unless misused (medicines) • Unsafe and should not be handled by children (cleaning products)
Knowing which products are safe or not, and how to properly use them, is very important!
You should NEVER handle a product or put it in your mouth without adult supervision!!
Rules for determining if a product is safe or not: • Use product with adult • Only use product for what it was created for. • Read directions and warning labels BEFORE using product. • Seek medical advice if a mistake is made or if you have a bad reaction.

Advertisements and commercials are often misleading and persuasive!
False information is everywhere. It is YOUR job to find out what is true and untrue!
Believing information because it is printed somewhere or said by someone can be dangerous!!

It is very important to use reliable sources in order to make healthy decisions!
Examples of reliable sources: • Nutrition facts labels • Dietary guidelines • MyPlate.gov
Websites are not always reliable. • .gov and .org sites are usually more reliable! Always compare information to other sources to be sure.
If you are still unsure about the information, ask a trusted adult!
