EXAMPLE OF EC FUNDED PROJECTS Humanitarian De-mining and Human Security:LAOS HUMANITARIAN UXO CLEARANCE IN KHAMMOUNE PROVINCE • OBJECTIVES • To remove all UXO from target sites in order to reduce the threat of death and injury to the population. • Through UXO clearance of target sites, to facilitate opportunities for development within the communities, undertaken by communities, other NGOs and local authorities, wishing to deliver wider development activities. • To train national staff as skilled clearance and roving team personnel to provide a local UXO clearance capacity.

  14. CONCLUSIONS HUMAN SECURITY DEVELOPMENT The EC is a significant donor in the field of mine action. From 2002-2007 EC has committed more than € 275 Million for Mine action worldwide (more than €1,5 Million for the EU as a whole). EC approach will continue to consider landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW) within a broader context of humanitarian assistance as well as long-term and sustainable socio-economic development programmes.
