  2. Intro We are going to tell you how blood diamond are mined in Africa and why they are called blood diamonds. They are not just ordinary red diamonds.

  3. Blood Diamonds are regular diamonds that are mined in Africa, but they are used to buy weapons and fund the military.

  4. Because they cause harsh working conditions for the miners and shed blood they are called “blood diamonds.”

  5. Blood diamonds are hand mined in the country trying to raise money. People dig on river banks and in drainage basins that show traces of rock and gravel that have diamonds.

  6. Hundreds of men and children work hard every day sometimes using hand-held sieves or just their hands hoping for a find.

  7. To prevent the chaos in Africa the Kimberley Process was introduced. It states that diamonds must be protected by advanced packages, documents, and tracking systems. To stay away from blood diamonds, first ask the seller of the diamond who the producer is.

  8. The Conclusion Thousands of people in Africa were, and still, are dying and suffering. Over two-million people ran away. For fifty years scientists have been trying to create real diamonds in labs around the world, but they are not considered gem quality.
