Why is Racism Still a Problem? Why is Racism Still a Problem? • Overt racism is condemned • Racist events take place frequently • Question: How do people react towards racist events? • People may overestimate how negatively they would feel in the face of racism
Kawakami, Dunn, Karmali, & Dovidio (2009) Design • Two conditions: • Forecaster: Participant observes situation • Experiencer: Participant in room with confederates • One Black and one White confederate pose as participants waiting for a study to start • The Black confederate leaves the room, bumping the White confederate as he leaves
