Do you know the symbols for our State? • Each state has a set of symbols. These symbols represent something that is an important part of each state.
The deer gets it’s name from it’s white tail. They are very popular all over the state. State Animal: Whitetail Deer
State Reptile: Loggerhead Sea Turtle • These reptiles swim in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of South Carolina. They lay their eggs on the sands of the South Carolina shore.
These dogs love to swim and hunt! They are great hunting dogs. State Dog: Boykin Spaniel
These shells can be found all over the Grand Strand on the local beaches. They come in several colors and many different sizes. State Shell: Olive Shell

The Yellow Jessamine is a sweet smelling flower. It is used in many perfumes. It can also be called “Carolina Jessamine.” State Flower: Yellow Jessamine

South Carolina’s nickname is the “Palmetto State”. This tree is different from a Palm Tree. A Palm Tree can produce coconuts, a Palmetto Tree cannot. State Tree: Palmetto Tree
The flag was designed in 1775 for soldiers to carry in the Revolutionary War. The navy blue background matched the soldier’s uniform. The crescent moon was worn on the soldier’s hats. The palmetto tree is for the palmetto trees used at Fort Moultrie to protect against the British. State Flag
