ABOUT NAFC • One of six regional forestry commissions of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) • Established in 1958 • Provides a policy and technical forum on forest issues for Canada, Mexico and the United States • Has technical working groups • Meets every two years—last meeting in October 2006 in Vancouver, Canada • Chair of the Commission rotates among the three countries—US is the current Chair.

The Role of the BOA • Operational arm of NAFC • Chair of the Bureau of Alternates rotates every two years • Meets at least once a year • Advises Commissioners on current activities and future direction • Oversees the working groups and evaluates progress of trilateral activities • Identifies opportunities to advance cooperative objectives. • Distributes information to its extensive network. • Considers funding requests. • Facilitates establishment of new working groups
