UEMS-CESMA GUIDELINE FOR THE QUALITY CONTROL • Three important problems: • Not all countries have established mechanisms for assessing the qualifications of medical professionals upon completion of their training prior to accrediting them as specialists. • Some countries evaluate the progress of a trainee while in training but do not have an overall exit assessment prior to their accreditation as specialists. • The existing national assessment processes are reflecting the national training framework and they do not guarantee in any way that a specialist has the necessary qualifications to practise atpan-European level. UEMS Charter • on TRAINING of MEDICAL SPECIALISTS in the EUROPEAN COMMUNITY (1993) • The Charter describes the requirements for adequate training, which prepares specialists for practice of their specialty at an appropriate level in any Member State of the EC. UEMS 2018
UEMS Charter on Training • This aim is achieved by the following means: • recommendations for setting and maintaining standards of training, • recommendations for training quality, • recommendations for setting standards and recognition of training institutions, • monitoring of the contents and quality and the evaluation of training in the EC member states, • facilitation of exchange of trainees between the EC member states • facilitation of free movement of specialists in the EC. UEMS CHARTER ON VISITATION OFTRAINING CENTERS • This charter presents the general outlinesof a national program for visitation of training centers. • Voluntary program • The level of training is compared with criteria that are adopted bythe national professionalauthority charged with the assurance of quality of training in the particular EU member state.
