Developing Sustainable Aquaculture for Coastal and Tilapia Systems in the Americas AquaFish CRSP Westin Chosun Hotel Busan, Korea May-2008
Development of snook (Centropomus spp) seed production technology for application in aquaculture and restocking of over fished populations • Incorporation of the native cichlids, Petenia splendida and Cichlasoma urophthalmus into Sustainable aquaculture:Improvement of seedstock and substitution of fish meal in diets • Elimination of MT from aquaculture masculinization systems: use of catalysis with titanium dioxide and bacterial degradation • Rural aquaculture in the northeast of Mexico
Development of snook (Centropomus spp) seed production technology for application in aquaculture and restocking of over fished populations Project Goals • Perform a technological package for the introduction of snook (Centropomus spp.)to aquaculture in southeast Mexico
Progress Establishment of the study facility • Research area with the maintaining of snook broodstock • Development of the spawning, nursery and phytoplankton production system Future work • Experiments with hormonal induction for spawning
Incorporation of the native cichlids, Petenia splendida and Cichlasoma urophthalmus into Sustainable aquaculture:Improvement of seedstock and substitution of fish meal in diets Project Goals Develop of researches in selection seed improve and substitution of fish meal in feed
Progress • Establishment of the seed selection system at UJAT • Selection of broodstock Future work • Improvement of seed selection
Elimination of MT from aquaculture masculinization systems: use of catalysis with titanium dioxide and bacterial degradation • Develop of masculinization systems • Collection of bacteria samples for bioreactor
Conferences co-funded by AquaFish CRSP • Algae conference • Schedule slipped due to delays in funding. • New plan is to hold a special session at WAS 2009 in Veracruz. Special session has already been approved by program committee. • ISTA 8 • Symposium is coming along very well.
