Welcome to General Art!I am your teacher Ms. Van Wyngeeren. I am very glad to be here and look forward to a great year. “ Guiding Question: How can I be successful in art this year?” Directions: 1. Take one sticky note of each color 2. On the pink note answer “what is art?” 3. On the yellow note answer “why do art?’ 4. Post your answers at the front of the room underneath the question that was answered.5. Hold tight! Scan the QR code with your device if you have one.
Today’s Goals: • Welcome and Intro • Syllabus • Classroom Procedures • Getting to know you/ 4 corners
Syllabus • If you have a Device BYOD get it out and scan the QR code or google “DSISD” • Click on the “Schools” drop-down and choose “middle school” • Select “Teachers web page” from the left • Choose “Ms. Van Wyngeeren • Click “About Ms. VW” • Open “2013-14 General Art Syllabus” http://teacherweb.schoolobjects.com/drippingspringsisd/Van%20WyngeerenK
Quietly begin your “bell ringer” as soon as possible. • Then… wait for directions • No talking during announcements Coming to class Sit in assigned seat at the start of class Look to the front of the room for instructions Fill in your planner or device with any notes/hw
During Class • You may talk quietly after assignments are given, unless told otherwise • Use tools correctly • Do NOT write on desks • Drinks in a sealable container and healthy snacks are allowed. If you make a mess only water will be allowed. Listen silently to instructions Take notes if needed Wait for “Studio time” to get materials Be in assigned seats for studio time.
Turning in Work Turn in all work on time I will direct you where to turn in projects. Usually this will be on the front desk unless I come around to collect it. Turn in all work with your Name (First & Last) and class period Write neatly. Write on the back, top right of artwork! Example: Sally Mae Period 6 You are responsible for turning in work and picking up work if you are absent. 1. Check my webpage 2. Check the make-up folders 3. Check with a classmate 4. Clarify with Ms. Van Wyngeeren
Clean- up Everyone cleans! As a class we are responsible for leaving the room better than we found it. Last 5-10 minutes of class- do not clean up early. You are responsible for cleaning up after yourself. You may be assigned clean up jobs for the class during messy projects Have a seat when you have completed cleaning until you are dismissed by Ms. Van Wyngeeren Push chairs in when dismissed by the teacher.
Tardies- Do not be late. • Tardy students come in quietly. Do not disturb class. • Sign in on the “tardy sign-in” sheet by the entrance and get to work. • Fire - out the door to the RIGHT, STAY TOGETHER listen for attendance • Tornado- in the hallway with back against the wall. • Lock down- silent, sitting on the floor in the corner out of sight from windows. General If we go anywhere we must stay together and stay silent You must fill out your own pass completely if you need to go anywhere, bring me a pen. I do not give passes for drinks. Bathroom Passes- 4 given for every 9 weeks. Once they are gone you need to wait until the hour is over and go during passing time. Work in progress : If it is wet it will go in a specified drying rack. If not it will be turned in on the front table.
I’m done! Now what? First thing, I would be very aware of how much time is given to a project. If you are done before everyone else around you, you may need to put in more time. Check your project with Ms. V see if I have any suggestions. Finish any Art related projects/homework Enrichment Activities: specified by project.
Room C117 Expectations Be respectful. Be creative. Be prepared. Be on task. Be clean. Be in your assigned seat Be dismissed by Ms. VW, not the bell.
What is a consequence? “What a person chooses to accept if a rule/expectation is broken.”
Room C117 Consequnces Receive a warning. Write a list of solutions for the problem. Receive detention. Write an action plan and make a phone call to parents. Conference with parents and teacher at school. Note: Consequences are determined on a case-by-case basis. These are examples of consequences. Higher offences mean directly higher consequences.
If you make good decisions and work hard in Art I guarantee you will be successful!
