Horizon 2020 and SMEs • European Commission foresees 15% - 20% of the combined societal and industrial challenges pillars budget within H2020 going to SMEs • Horizon 2020 proposes funding for individual SMEs with near-commercial research –SMEs will no longer need to participate in consortia • EEN and NCPs in Europe have taken steps to improve alignment and support for H2020 • Improved Communication and sharing of best practices • Training

Context • The Enterprise Europe Network EEN is running and financed through the Competitiveness&InnovationProgramm CIP until 2014 • A new call for proposals (member states) is expected to be published end of 2013 under the Programme for Competitiveness of Enterprises&SMEs COSME • We can assume that the existing EEN will continue under the COSME programme from 2015 on

Context 2 • It is not clear yet if / how many / which new countries will be accepted in the new EEN period • The new country partners will be named Business Cooperation Centers BCC • Assuming that third country co-operation is planned we can suppose similar rules as in the (now ending) CIP programme • A call for third countries should be launched before the summer break (June 2014) with submission deadline after the summer break (September 2014)
