  1. Assessing Interoperability Mr Mark Willmann Chief Information Officer Joint Knowledge Online Joint Staff J7

  2. Purpose • To provide MLS participants with an understanding of the existing Joint Knowledge Online (JKO) architectural framework • Once an understanding is achieved, participants may then assess interoperability potentials with their unique national architectures

  5. JKO Mobile - Background • JKO Mobile is an outcome of the FY11-FY12 Coalition Warfare Program (OSD AT&L) project for a “Mobile Learning Environment” • Collaborative effort between ADL, JKO, and ADL Partnership Labs (UK/CAN/POL) • Consists of an outsourced “back end” m-Learning suite and ADL/JKO hybrid mobile app • Lays groundwork for mobile initiatives such as Virtual Worlds Framework (VWF), ADL Experience API (xAPI), etc.

  6. JKO Mobile - Approach • JKO Mobile is a hybrid application (App) available for download from Apple and Android App stores (search for JKO). • Compatible with the iOS 5 and Android 2.3 Operating Systems (OS). • Older operating systems should work; however, there may be limitations due to the mobile device as opposed to the OS. • The App is free to download and use. • With JKO Mobile you can: • Download and complete training courses on mobile device. • Get the latest JKO news. • Download unclassified job aids.

  7. Mobile Content • Types of Content: • News announcements • HTML5 content: • Course • Checklists • References • Games • Videos: • Small videos downloaded to mobile device • Large videos streamed from mLS architecture • Large videos streamed from commercial sources (YouTube) • eBooks • Podcasts • Arrangement of content: • News • My Downloads • Catalog (filtered by subject, organization, or title) • My Training History

  8. Additional Features • M-Learning Suite supports Roles Based Access Controls (RBAC) – training staff and students only see what they are authorized to see. RBAC is fully configurable. • At the present time, there are six roles: • Public (does not require PIN login) • Public role does not record any info such as completions • DoD • UK Partnership Lab (Defence Centre of Training Support) • Canadian Partnership Lab (Canadian Defence Academy) • Polish Partnership Lab (Polish National Defence University) • Developers (allows development and review on the production server) • At the present time, the Partnership Labs do not have connectivity with their LMS’ – correlation of students with PINs is done by looking at the m-Learning Suite dashboard and manually correlating PINs to students via spreadsheet. • Training staffs can share content among each role as required

  9. Where Can I Get It? • The JKO Mobile App is available in both Apple and Android app stores. • The JKO Mobile App is compatible with Apple iOS 5 and Android 2.3 Operating Systems. Newer operating systems may cause operating difficulties. • The JKO Mobile App is free.

  10. JKO Mobile App Login Page Your PIN is your password to JKO Mobile. Logging in with a PIN will grant you access to news and content you are authorized to view. Do not share your PIN. Content that is flagged for viewing by the General Public may be viewed without a PIN by pressing the “Public Access” button.

  11. Once you have entered the app, select Library

  12. Once you are in the Library, you can view content from A-Z (default view) or via subject or publisher from the menu bar.

  13. You can also use the Filter to look for different types of resource: courses, videos, podcasts and ebooks.

  14. Select your content, and download it.

  15. The content that you’ve downloaded will be stored in My Content. Once the content is installed, just select the forward arrow to get started.

  16. If you need to delete content, simply press firmly on the listed course and swipe to the left. You’ll be offered the delete option. Tap to delete.
