  1. PREPARING FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS Presented by Terrie Cole and Mae Fitchett International Student Orientation 2019

Undergraduate Schools College of Liberal Arts (CLA) Traditional high school graduates and transfer students seeking full-time enrollment in our undergraduate day programs with classes meeting two or three times a week on average. Campus housing is available to CLA students. Hamilton Holt (Holt) Traditional and Non-Traditional students seeking part-time or full-time enrollment in evening programs with classes meeting once or twice a week on average. Holt students may not live on campus.

  3. CLA: Graduation Requirements • Complete (rFLA) General Education Curriculum • Earn at least a 2.00 GPA (C, grade point average) overall • Meet residency requirement by completing last 2 semesters full-time at Rollins, excluding summer terms • Declare at least one major and complete all requirements with at least a 2.00 GPA overall in the major • Complete 140 semester hour credits (earned in courses) • At least 70 credits in Rollins courses • At least 16 credits not used in rFLA courses or a major) • At least 64 credits outside a single department • (Example: If your major is English, you will need 64 credits outside the • department, ENG)

  4. Holt: Graduation Requirements • Complete General Education Curriculum requirements • Earn at least a 2.00 GPA (C, grade point average) overall • Declare at least one major and complete all requirements with at least a 2.00 GPA overall in the major • Complete 140 semester hour credits (earned in courses) • At least 48 credits (12, 4-credit courses) taken in Holt • At least 16 elective credits (not used in Gen Ed Curriculum and a major) • At least ¼ of courses for each major, except Business, must be taken at Rollins. Business majors must take at least ½ of courses for the major at Rollins.

  5. Grading Scale The cumulative grade point average (GPA) is based on a four-point (4.00) scale. Final grades are assigned the following numerical equivalents. A = 4.00 B+ = 3.33 C+ = 2.33 A- = 3.67 B = 3.00 C = 2.00 B- = 2.67 C- = 1.67 D+ = 1.33 F = 0.00 CR=credit earned D = 1.00 WF = 0.00 NC=no credit earned D- = 0.67 W=withdrew I & Z=incomplete/waiting for final grade W = Withdrawal is noted on academic record when a course withdrawal occurs after the add/drop period, but by the withdrawal deadline. CR (credit) and NC (no credit) notations are for courses graded on a CR/NC basis, such as Internships, Information Technology (IFT), Physical Education Activity (PEA), January Intersession courses, and Physical Education Varsity (PEV). CR/NC courses do not calculate into the GPA. If you earn a final grade of C- or better you will receive CR (credits). A grade of D or less will be recorded as NC (and no credit awarded). CR count towards graduation credits.

  6. Grades • Grade 'A' is reserved for work that is exceptional in quality and shows keen insight, understanding, and initiative. • Grade 'B' is given for work that is consistently superior and shows interest, effort, or originality. • Grade 'C' is a respectable grade. A 'C' average (2.00) is required for graduation. It reflects consistent daily preparation and satisfactory completion of all work required. • Grade 'D-' is the lowest passing grade. It is below the average necessary to meet graduation requirements and ordinarily is not accepted for transfer by other institutions. Some majors, minors and general education requirements require a C or better grade to satisfy requirements. • Grade 'F' is failing.

  7. CLA: Graduating with Academic Honors • Faculty of the College of Liberal Arts make the distinction Cum Laude (with honors). • In making such awards, the faculty requires that both of the following criteria be met. • 1) Grade Point Average (GPA) • Cum Laude: 3.50-3.69 • Magna Cum Laude: 3.70-3.89 • Summa Cum Laude: 3.90-4.00 • 2) Endorsement by the major department. • Notice: If you earn either of the Cum Laude status it is indicated on your Rollins academic transcript.

Holt: Graduating with Academic Honors • Students completing the final 70 semester hours of degree requirements in residence (institutional hours) at Rollins College may qualify for graduation with honors provided that the appropriate cumulative GPA is achieved • Grade Point Average (GPA) • Cum Laude: 3.50-3.69 • Magna Cum Laude: 3.70-3.89 • Summa Cum Laude: 3.90-4.00 • Notice: If you earn either of the Cum Laude status it is indicated on your Rollins academic transcript.

A course may not count for more than one general education requirement. *Proof of Associates of Arts Degree (AA) prior to enrollment will require completion of only 2 courses (INT 200 and ENGW 280 Writing in the Liberal Arts) to complete General Education Curriculum.

CLA & Holt 16 Elective Credits • A variety of courses may be taken to achieve the required 16 elective credits and any remaining credits needed to achieve the minimum 140 credits for graduation. • Options include: • Courses not used in a major or rFLA curriculum • Courses used in a Minor • January Intersession • IFT courses • Internships, Field Study, etc. Field Study Intersession Internship Electives & Open Options

  16. Course Load & Registration • All international students in F-1 or J-1 status are required by Federal immigration law to be registered full-time each fall and spring semester. • Full-time is twelve (12) or more semester hours per term. International students must register and remain registered for at least twelve (12) semester hours each term. • If you have a concern about your ability to stay registered full-time, you MUST see the International Student Services Coordinator PRIOR to dropping any courses that would bring you below the twelve (12) semester hour minimum.

Course Load & Registration cont’d • A registration advisement period is set aside during the fall and spring terms of each year to allow students to consult with academic advisors and prepare registration materials. • The Schedule of Classes published each semester provides details concerning registration procedures. • Students must complete paperless pre-registration processes by the deadlines stated each term in the Schedule of Classes. • All changes in registration require the faculty advisor's approval and must be made during the first week of the term to add a course, or during the first two weeks to drop a course.
