About Our Industry • Dicronite Southwest have developed acitric acid passivation approach to passivation. Dicronite Southwest’s citric acid passivation technology is used in a wide variety of applications and various types of industries. Citric acid passivation creates no safety or environmental issues, generates no hazardous waste and is more effective at passivating the surface. • Dicronite Southwest offers passivation of stainless steels to the SAE AMS2700 and ASTM A967 specifications.
What is Stainless Steel Passivation? • Passivation is the process of treating or coating a metal in order to reduce the chemical reactivity of its surface. In stainless steel, passivation means removing the free iron from the surface of the metal using an acid solution to prevent rust. When the surface iron is removed, the other components of the alloy (primarily chromium, often nickel as well) are left behind as a surface layer over the underlying steel.
Upon exposure to air, they react with oxygen to form an oxide layer that protects the rest of the steel from corrosion. This corrosion-resistant surface can be damaged through mechanical means, heat or chemical damage. When that happens, iron is exposed and the item is once again subject to rusting. For this reason, passivation may need to be performed on a regular basis. In both home and commercial settings exposure to things like cleaning solutions, bleach or salt (oceanic environments) all will contribute to the need for regular passivation of the stainless steel.
Tungsten Disulfide Coating • Dry lubricants offer significant advantages over grease or oil. These include: performance at higher or lower temperatures, where leaks are unacceptable, or where gears must operate in vacuum. • Benefits of Using Dicronite’s Tungsten Disulfide Coating & Dry Lube ; • Can only are eliminated by removing the bonded substrate and molecularly bonds to all materials and platting. • Operates in the temperature range of -460°F to 1200°F (-273°C to 650°C) and withstands loads to 100,000 psi (or load capacity equal to substrate) and. • Improve performance and extend service life by overcoming or reducing mechanical lubrication problems
