UMass Environmental Engineering Research Project“Innovative Applications of Treatment Processes for Spent Filter Backwash” Principal Investigators • David Cornwell (EE&T), John Tobiason, Michael MacPhee (Malcolm Pirnie) Sponsor: • Awwa Research Foundation Duration: 10/05 – 3/08 Synopsis: UMass subcontract to conduct bench-scale experiments of innovative membrane processes for treatment of waste or spent filter backwash from filtration processes. Also assist with collection of lamella sedimentation process performance at full-scale SFBW treatment facilities. Graduate Students: • Kenneth Mercer, Anh Nguyen Status: Completion early 2008 • Presentation at AWWA WQTC 2007, Charlotte NC. • Project report in 2008
