BURLINGTON PROGRAM Army Unit: ROYAL HAMILTON LIGHT INFANTRY 4 Credit Program (Second Semester) • 2 Co-Op credits for your Canadian Forces Training [Basic Military Qualification & Basic Military Qualification: Land (formerly called Soldiers Qualification)] • 1 Healthy Active Living Credit, tied to the Co-Op credits. (the Physical Training for Army) • 1 Academic Credit – Encouraging Grade 11 or, 12 English at College or University Levels. Will consider Grade 11 or 12 Humanities, Social Science, or Business Courses.

  3. GEORGETOWN PROGRAM Army Unit: The Lorne Scots 4 Credit Program (Second Semester) • 4 Co-Op credits for your Canadian Forces Training [Basic Military Qualification & Basic Military Qualification: Land (formerly called Soldiers Qualification)]

  4. Typical Days: • Garrison Training • Burlington ½ Day Army Training and ½ Day Academic Course & Physical Training 0800 – 1200 then 1300 – 1600 • Georgetown – All Day Army Training 0800 – 1600 Tuesday  Friday • Academic (Burlington Only)

  5. Typical Days: • Field Time  Rifle, Grenade & Machine Gun Ranges, Gas hut, Camping with & without shelter, patrolling, digging – can be 24 hours/ day.

A Typical Garrison Training Day • 0745 – 0800 should be arriving at Burlington (B) Armoury or Georgetown (G) Armoury • 0800: Official Roll Call • 0815 – 1200: Military Training (2 Co-Op Credits) • 1200 – 1300: Lunch – BRING ONE TO Armoury • 1300 – 1430: Academic Course (B) OR Military Training (1 additional Co-Op Credits: G) • 1430 – 1600: Physical Training (HPE Credit: B) OR Military Training (1 additional Co-Op Credits: G) • 1600: Dismissal

Field Days • Will often start early – 0630 to Burlington/Georgetown Armoury on day 1, then wake ups between 0600 – 0630 • Training will be intense and expectations will be high on achieving training goals – i.e. Rifle Range – improvement in firing from various stances. • Safety is the TOP PRIORITY in all army training. • Will be out overnight on a few occasions, and will be on limited sleep during those times.

  8. Who is Encouraged? • Students who are interested in the Military, or any of the other Justice, Community Safety & Emergency Services Sector Professions. • Students who are currently in grade 10 – allows the student to work for their training unit for Grade 12 Year. (Current Grade 11s will be considered) NOT really looking for SUPER SENIORS.

  9. Who is Encouraged? [2] • Students who are interested in a paid co-op Roughly $40.00 / half day, $80.00 / full day. Can make approximately $2200.00 for the semester, and an additional $2000 - $2500 for the follow-up summer training. • Both Male & Female Students

  10. How to Get Students IN [1] 1. Register them on OnSORTS.ca 2. I will send electronic copies of the applications to the provided email address, and will post them on the Co-Op and Guidance CHATT icons. 3. Have students complete paperwork, check it briefly, photocopy their identification & print an OFFICIAL Student Transcript. I will post dates shortly, to collect packages and meet with students. (I will also scan Student Identification)

  11. How to Get Students IN [2] Students are JOINING the ARMY! They will become members of the Canadian Forces. The first step is to complete the paperwork, with attention to detail. The Recruiting Centres will not process incomplete paperwork, and will not necessarily let candidates know in a timely manner.

  12. How to Get Students IN [3] The Canadian Forces RECRUITING PROCESS: • Students write an Aptitude Test – language, math & spatial ability. NO CALCULATORS ALLOWED • Students undergo a Medical Examination/Screening. (Family History, Major illnesses or injuries, etc.)

How to Get Students IN [4] • The Canadian Forces RECRUITING PROCESS Continued: • Students complete a baseline Fitness Test (19 Push-Ups Male/9 Push-Ups Female, 19 Sit-Ups Male, 15 Sit-Ups Female, a Hand grip test to equal 75 Kilograms, and a step test to simulate a 2.4 kilometre run. • An interview with a military career counsellor to ensure suitability.

  14. How to Get Students IN [5] • Once students have completed the RECRUITING PROCESS, a 6 – 8 week timeline, their file is sent back to their unit, who will organise a “swearing in” ceremony – ONLY AFTER that ceremony should students consider themselves on the co-op.***

  15. TIMELINES • All students registered on OnSORTS within two days of my receipt of the OnSORTS notification.

TIMELINES [2] • I will send out dates to students and to student service departments who have students registered on Onsorts as to when I will visit their school through May & June. • I will only visit schools ONCE, then completed packages are to be sent to me care of White Oaks right through until the course is full in the FALL (Generally October 1)

  17. Application Packages Should INCLUDE: • Canadian Forces Employment Application (4 Pages) • Copies of Front & Back of Drivers Licence, Birth Certificate & Social Insurance Card. • The Forces.ca Back Check Forms (5 pages) • The Personnel Screening, Consent & Authorization Form (2 Pages) • Their Original Ontario Student Transcript • The Annex B Physical Fitness Test Consent Form (1 page) • The Forces.ca Pre-Enrolment Security Clearance Pre-Assessment Questionnaire. (1 page)

  18. Acceptable Identification • Citizenship: Birth Certificate, Passport or Citizenship Card • Who you are: Ontario Health Card, Drivers Licence or Student Card

  19. Important Additional Information About the Canadian Forces Co-Op There is a course fee of $250.00 which goes to Physical Training Clothing, academic course material (ILC), and incidental costs – i.e. food in the field. This Co-Op is VERY competitive process, need to have paperwork in As Soon As Possible to me either on the date I visit or to White Oaks Secondary School.
