The Brazilian Chemistry Society was founded in July1977. Its mission is the development and consolidation of the Brazilian chemical community, dissemination of chemistry knowledge as well as their relations and consequences on the development of the country and the quality of life of its citizens.
Printed journals Química Nova was the first journal launched by SBQ in January 1978 and its publication has been maintained unbroken until today. It publishes original research articles and reviews and papers on higher education and history of chemistry in Portuguese, English and Spanish. The Journal of The Brazilian Chemical Society (1990) embraces all aspects of chemistry except education, philosophy and history of chemistry. It is a medium for reporting selected original and significant contributions to new chemical knowledge. The journal publishes Articles, Communications , Short Reports, Reviews and Letters. The Química Nova na Escola(1995) proposes to subsidize the work, training and upgrading of high school teaching community. It is an open space for the educator, stimulating discussion and reflection on the teaching and learning of chemistry, contributing to the formation of citizenship.
