Yes, naturally you can change the JAR, but since the JAR will change the check sum made from the JAR at the time of the signing, it will become invalid.

  7. 4. Why does the signature break if a signed Java ME application's JAR file is changed? • The calculated checksum of the JAD changes. • It doesn’t. • The calculated checksum of the JAR changes. C. Checksum is calculated from JAR file and placed to the JAD. (Just checking if the audience is awake.)

  8. 5. Why do I need to start installing a signed Java ME application from the JAD file? • JAD includes the certificate and the calculated check sum of the JAR file. • The JAD is visible, JAR is a hidden file. • JAD includes the JAR file. C. JAR does not have the signature or certificate information. It is in the JAD file. You can start the installation from the JAR, but then the application will be installed as unsigned.

  9. 6. Which of the fields does not appear after a Java ME application is signed? • MIDlet-Signature • MIDlet-Certificate. • MIDlet-Jar-RSA-SHA1 C. There are only Certificates and Checksums in this game. The MIDlet-Signature field was made up to trick you!

Can you install a signed Java ME application if the date of the phone is not inside the certificate validity period? • Yes, but you will get an error message about the date being wrong. • No. • Yes. A. NO Example from real life: I take the phone from the sales package and do not set the date. If the date is 1.1.2008 and the certificate validity starts 10.12.2008, the application will not install.

  13. 10. How do I make a signed Java ME application unsigned? • Remove the MIDlet-Signed field from the JAR manifest file. • Remove the MIDlet-Certificate- and MIDlet-Jar-RSA-SHA1 fields from the JAD file. • Add the JAD file into the JAR. C. Removing the Certificate and check sum fields will do that. You may want to "unsign" the application if the device where you are installing the application does not have the corresponding root.

  14. 11. How long is the signature of a Java Verified Java ME application valid for? • Ten years from the installation. • Until lunch time. • Ten years from the signing. B. Ten years from the signing, this is checked, not set, at the time of the installation.

  18. 15. What happens when signing a Java ME application? • A signature is placed to the JAR file and the encrypted number of the files in the JAR file is placed to the MIDlet-Jar-RSA-SHA1 field. The certificate which is used to sign the JAD file is placed to the MIDlet-Certificate field. • The size of the JAD file is used to encrypt the JAR file that information is placed to the MIDlet-Jar-RSA-SHA1 field. The JAD certificate is placed to the MIDlet-Certificate field. • A checksum is calculated from the JAR file and encrypted with the private key. That information is placed in the MIDlet-Jar-RSA-SHA1 field in the JAD file. The corresponding public key in the form of a certificate is then placed in the MIDlet-Certificate field. B.
