FAQs • Day Care on Site - Bay Area Child Care 510-797-8613, Main Office @ Gomes 510-490-4222; • Office Hours 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. (Office closes for summer, Website, Twitter & Yahoo Group will have info re: opening date when provided to us by the district) • Kindergarten Placement Testing and Parent Orientation will take place at Oliveira on Wednesday, August 20th. • Your child's AM or PM assignment will be posted on Wednesday, August 20th after 5 p.m.
Class Times & Lists • AM - 8:00 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. • PM - 11:35 a.m. to 2:55 p.m. • Class lists with classroom number and teacher name will be posted on August 25 by 4 p.m. Changes are not possible due to class balancing. • Physical and immunization paperwork may be brought to the office after appointment or immunization. (Children cannot start without required immunizations) • First day of school is Wednesday, August 27th, • No School September 1st, Labor Day, Federal Holiday
What to Bring • A small HEALTHY snack (should take 5-7 minutes to eat, re-usable containers easily opened by child) • A folder-sized backpack • Classroom donation of $40 per student, you do not have to bring this the first day (all supplies are bought from this, pencils, paper, crayons, erasers, tissues etc.) • Always smart to leave a change of clothes (underwear, slacks, socks) in your child’s backpack—just in case.
What to Bring & Do • Arrive 2-3 minutes before 8:00 or 11:35, Pick up exactly at 11:20 or 2:55 (if you are late your child will be waiting for you in the front office) • Walk your child to the kinder playground • Pick your child up from the kinder playground • Playground is for Kinder students ONLY…liability • Please…allow teachers to teach • Leave campus when class is dismissed • Write a note to the teacher – they will get back to you
What to Bring & Do • Follow the rules of the Crossing Guard and safety patrol—model good behavior. • Be kind to the neighbors. • Speed bumps are for cars—not for crossing. • DO NOT PARK IN THE PARKING LOT, PRESCHOOL OR THE LOADING ZONE. • Bus riders are escorted by a teacher to and from the bus.

Top Readiness Skills for Kindergarten • Enthusiasm toward learning • Ability to separate from parents • Solid oral language skills • Ability to listen • The desire to be independent • The ability to play well with others • Strong Fine-Motor Skills (cutting/pencils/shoe tying) • Some Letter and Number Recognition • Read Aloud to your child, let your child turn the pages and talk about what you are reading.
We are a Team! • Communicate with your teacher—notes are great, e-mail etc. • PTA/ Classroom volunteers • Your child will be okay • Playground for school hours ONLY (you may not have your children/toddlers play on the playground between/after classes) • Investment--Your child will succeed with great determination and hard work-GRIT!
