Elementary STEM ClubPilot Year 2017-2108 • 10 sites • 202 students (2nd & 4th grades) • 22 teachers • Weekly meetings, 1.5-2hrs each • Monthly themed kits with 3-4 activities • Kick-off event in September 2017 • Culminating event April 2018
Elementary STEM ClubYear 2: 2018-2109 • 11 sites • 220 students/semester (2nd -5th grades) • 26 teachers • Weekly meetings, 1.5-2hrs each • Monthly themed kits with 3-4 activities • Kick-off events in Sept. 2018/Jan. 2019 • Culminating event April 2019
Future in Focus & Career Chamber Challenge • Future in Focus 6th Grade (~ 375 students) pilot year 2017-2018 • OKCareerGuide.com assessment 20mins.-45 mins. • Iguana Bus - mobile classroom- at partner schools • Student Services staff • Career Chamber Challenge 7th Grade (~30 students) pilot 2018-2019 • Escape room challenges focused on career cluster level • Student challenge linked to OKCareerGuide.com assessment outcomes • 2 days on EOC Tech campus to complete • Student Services staff + Iguana Council students
8th Grade Shadow Event • Originally piloted with CNPS (~400 students) • In our 4th year, all 8th graders (~800 students), at EOC Tech campus 9am-2pm • Culmination of ICAP requirements, career pathway level • Fall event includes: 1.5 hour tour of campus, True Colors activity, My Future Story project, and OKCareerGuide.com assessment during split lunch • Spring event includes: 3 rotations, 45mins. each, chosen by students through EOC Tech programs, 4 Year academic plan session, and OKCareerGuide.com assessment during split lunch • All hands on deck: Student Services, Instructional Staff, Marketing Staff, Food Service, Transportation, EOC Tech students
Reality Race • 9th Grade - pilot year 2017-2018 w/EOC Explore • Will pilot with one 9th grade class from partner high school in April 2019 • Focus on financial planning with differentiation of career/education levels, career choice level • Collaboration with EOC Tech Web Page Services program to develop app for activity
EXPLORE Program • 10th grade, semester class, elective credit • 3 year average: 114 students (57/semester) • 85 min. classes, 4 sections (2AM/2PM) • 4 week orientation with EXPLORE instructor • 5 rotations, 3 weeks each in EOC Tech program areas
How do we make it work? Relationships! • Bi-annual partner school teacher teams • Quarterly Superintendents, HS principal, MS principal, HS counselors, MS counselors • Monthly Elementary STEM Club teacher • Weekly EOC instructor/staff meetings
How do we determine success? • Data related to goals • Feedback mechanism • Survey student populations after each activity • Partnership meetings • Internal debriefings with Instructors and Staff
Celebrations • Explore: roughly 60% of Explore Students enroll Jr/Sr/13th year • 8th Grade Shadow: 10% increase from previous year #of 8th graders indicating enrollment at EOC Tech (from 62.11% up to 70.7%) on 4 Year Academic Plan • 8th Grade Shadow: 33.8% of all 8th graders indicate Explore program enrollment on 4 Year Academic Plan. • STEM Club activity feedback on average 4 on a 1-5 scale • Have doubled the number of STEM Club students served • Grade level specific activities for 2nd-5th STEM Club students • Over 90% of students attend the weekly STEM Club sessions
