Objective: To be considered for being standardized under Nobel.

  5. 3.2.1. Problem Definition • Current GMPLS signaling does not support the setup of bidirectional lightpaths within DPRing-based MANs. • This is the lack of GMPLS for DPRing-based MANs.

  6. 3.2.1. Proposed Solution • The goal is to propose the standardization under the NOBEL scope of a GMPLS-compliant modelusing current GMPLS signaling objects as well as minor GMPLS-based signaling extensions. • The specific details of the proposed GMPLS-compliant model are described in section 3.2.1 D25 and were presented in Munich (Signaling TF).

  7. 3.2.1. …work done in this field… • In Journals/ Magazines -R. Muñoz, R. Martínez, J.Sorribes, G. Junyent Experimental GMPLS-provisioning for future all-optical DPRing-based MAN. Accpeted subjected to revision of minor points at IEEE Journal of Lightwave Technology , October 2005. • In International Conferences -R. Muñoz, R. Martínez, J. Sorribes, G. Junyent, Flooding global wavelength information through GMPLS RSVP-TE signaling in DPRings, IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC 2005). Seoul (Korea), May 16-20 2005. - R. Muñoz, R. Martínez, J. Sorribes, G. Junyent, Experimental demonstration of two new GMPLS lightpath setup schemes for soft-permanent connections over Metro-DWDM DPRing implemented on EMPIRICO ASON testbed, IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference (Globecom 2004). Dallas (USA), 29 November - 3 December 2004. - R. Muñoz, R. Martínez, J. Sorribes, G. Junyent, An experimental GMPLS-based wavelength reservation protocol for flooding global wavelength information in uni-ring-based MAN, IFIP Optical Networks & Technologies Conference (OpNeTec 2004). Pisa (Italy),Oct.18-20 2004. - R. Muñoz, R. Martínez, J. Sorribes, G. Junyent, Experimental Demonstration of the Impact of Label Contention on GMPLS Bidirectional Connections over Unidirectional OADM Rings. New label contention polices for wavelength sets, 8th IFIP Working Conference on Optical Network Design and Modeling (ONDM 2004). Ghent (Belgium), February 2-4 2004.  - R. Muñoz, R. Martínez, G. Junyent, C. Pinart, A. Amrani, Performance evaluation of two new GMPLS lightpath setup proposals over an unidirectional OADM ring implemented on a testbed, 29th European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC 2003). Rimini (Italy), September 21-25, 2003.

  8. 3.2.2.GMPLS-based provisioning in All-Optical wavelength-routed MANs. • The setup of bidirectional lightpaths in all-optical MANs w/o wavelength converters  mandatory: wavelength continuity constraint (WCC). • Inefficiency of the GMPLS protocols (routing & signaling) for ensuring WCC in particular on the upstream path [oki]. • Inefficiency in terms of: high blocking prob., resources are over reserved, and high setup delay. [OKI]: E. Oki et. al., Bidirectional path Setup Scheme Using on Upstream Label Set in Optical GMPLS Networks, IEICE Trans. Commun., Vol. E87-B, No.6, pp.1569-1576, June 2004

  9. 3.2.2.Problem Motivation • Existent Solutions: • GMPLS: PathErr with Acceptable Label Set [RFC3471]. • [oki]: Proposes the Upstream Label Set (extend the GMPLS signaling protocol). • Our Solution (work in progress) : extend only the GMPLS routing protocol to disseminate the wavelength availability. • A CSPF-based Routing Algorithm computes routes (bidirectional lightpaths) guareenteing the WCC. • Better use of the network resources, decreasing the blocking probability [icton]. Junyent, Experimental GMPLS-based Dynamic Routing in All-Optical wavelength-routed networks, 7th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON2005), Vol.1, pp.193-196, Barcelona (Spain), July 3-7 2005.
