  2. Senior Schedules • Senior Requirements: • English (Literature/Language IV, or English 101, or AP Literature or AP Language) (2 Terms) • 4 years of Math (Algebra Topics, Algebra III, Pre-Calculus, AP Stats, AP Calculus, others) (2 Terms) • Government (One term) • Economics (One term)

  3. Senior Dates to Remember University of Louisville open house (on campus) Saturday, October 11 Racer Days at Murray State University October 22nd College Fair at Daviess County Public Library October 22nd 5-7 pm ITT Technical-Newburgh Saturday October 11 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

  4. Senior Dates to Remember • Murray State University-open house here in Owensboro at the Hampton Inn Downtown • 5-8 p.m. October 21st • University of Louisville-open house in Owensboro Riverpark Center • 6 p.m. October 14th.

ACT Test Dates • October 25, 2014--------Deadline to register September 19, 2014 • December 13, 2014-----Deadline to register is November 7, 2014 • February 7, 2015-----Deadline to register is January 9, 2015 • April 18, 2015------Deadline to register is March 13, 2015 • June 13, 2015----Deadline to register is May 8, 2015

  6. ACT, reasons to try again… • Check out college websites to see what they require for admission. • Most major scholarships require a 28 or higher on the ACT. • If your child does not meet college readiness benchmarks (see next slide) they will be required to attend remediation courses, which cost tuition but =no college credit.

  7. College Admissions Info • Top 3 or so choices; students have been applying, several have already been accepted! • Have you been to visit campus??? • Use the college’s websites! (Great resources) • Find a reliable contact on the campus to be able to email or call if necessary. • Be aware of deadlines for admissions and scholarships

Scholarships Available on Apollo webpage (GREAT RESOURCE!!) • Visit Apollo webpage at http://www.ahs.dcps.org • Click on “Parents”. • Click on “Scholarships” • You will be able to view all scholarships that have been sent to me. Requirements for each scholarship, printable PDF files for each scholarship and website addresses are on each scholarship listing as well. • This is how scholarship information will be given out this school year.

  9. Scholarship Information • Spend time on the following websites looking for scholarships and creating profiles to earn money for college!! • www.finaid.org • www.fastweb.com • www.scholarships.com • www.kheaa.com • www.fastaid.com • www.cappex.com

Scholarship Information 2 • Most in state deadlines for academic scholarships (awarded by the college itself) is January 15th! • Be on the look out for scholarships that your student may be eligible for through your work, church, clubs/organizations, or those that your relatives may be involved in. Know your resources and use them wisely!

Find the search bar at the top of the website and enter “scholarships” or look for the tab at the top that is labeled “Scholarships or Financial Aid.

  12. Other ideas/thoughts • Letter of recommendation-ask for letters now/soon! (Employer, teachers, guidance counselor, youth pastor, band instructor, Scouts leader, etc.- I have a template form, see me 2 weeks before!) • Collect information about your special talents-sports, musical abilities, activities, leadership, etc. (ILP) • Mission Possible time-what a benefit!!

College Visits! • Sign up for a college visit or two-most in state offer this service on their websites. • If you have already visited, try to narrow your choices-then apply to your favorites. • If your student must take a day off from school to visit, see Ms. Anderson in the attendance office for an Educational Enhancement form. Fill this form out before your trip and turn it in for an excused absence if approved! • Make a contact on the campus(es) of your choice! (Someone to call/email if you need help, have questions, etc.)

  14. FAFSAFREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AIDwww.fafsa.ed.gov • January 1, 2012—The earliest date you can begin filing the FAFSA online. Local college financial aid offices are the best resource for assistance regarding filing this application. It is the most important financial document involved in the college process.

  15. FAFSA continued… Mark your Calendar! • In early December, you will have the opportunity to make a FAFSA appointment for January 5th & 6th here at Apollo with Casi Clark; she can assist you with this process. • A one-call will go out several times in December reminding senior parents of FAFSA appointments; call us in Guidance beginning December 1st to set one up 270.852.7100.

  16. Parchment & Grades • Online service for sending transcripts. • Many, Many seniors have already registered for this service. • Visit www.parchment.com to set up a free account. • Need help seeing your student’s grades online? (email Mrs. Fulkerson at jackie.fulkerson@daviess.kyschools.us)
