How To Identify How To Identify And Remove Wax On Apples Wax On Apples And Remove There is a famous saying, “An apple a day, keeps the doctor away.” Unfortunately these days, eating apples have become the main reason we need doctors in the first place, no thanks to all the wax coated on them to make them look appealing and all the chemicals sprayed on them to keep pests and diseases away. Scientists say that it is easy to remove the chemicals by washing the fruits thoroughly. But when it comes to wax, things get slightly challenging. One option is to peel the apple before consuming, but then you miss out on a lot of fibre and nutrients. Most fruits hold maximum nutrition right under their skin, and this is often lost when they are peeled. Also, did you know that there are numerous fruits, including apples, plums and pears that produce their own natural wax? This wax coating helps protect the fruits from desiccation and helps keep the fruit firm for longer. However, an additional wax coating is added to fruits these days just to make them look tempting. A majority of these waxes used are food-grade, but many vendors in India use cheaper alternatives which are dangerous for humans. Most of us don’t realise how much harmful wax we are consuming on a daily basis. This wax, even if commercial grade, a layer of pesticides gets sealed in under its layer. Infants are speculated to be unable to detoxify these chemicals and these chemicals could affect their development and brain functioning.
So, here is how you can identify and remove the wax on apples: 1.Dip apples in hot water for a few seconds before consumption, to remove the wax. Once you take out the apple from the hot water, wash it again under running tap water. 2.Another popular hack is to use vinegar to degrade away the wax. Dip a piece of cotton in vinegar and rub it thoroughly on the skin of the apple for 60 seconds. Don’t forget to wash this vinegar off with water after. 3.You can also mix one tablespoon of lemon juice and one tablespoon of baking soda in water. Dip each apple in this mixture and scrub it using a vegetable brush. Rinse them under tap water once you are done. 4.You can also choose organic fruits over commercially mass-produced ones, but mind you- they can be expensive. Most fruits are naturally low in fat, sodium, and calories. Fruits are sources of many essential nutrients including potassium, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, iron, dietary fibre, and vitamins A, B, C and K. So, keeping all these above points in mind, be sure to wash your fruits better next time in order to reap maximum goodness from them.
