  2. INTRODUCTION Modernization of Mil Farms is a part of Forces Goal-2030 of BD Army. Supplying of quality milk and milk products to all members of defforces is the first step to achieve the forces goal. Without upgrading the Breed characteristics it is very difficult to get maximum amount of milk from the existing number of farm animals. Same number of merit or high percentage Holstein Friesian (HF) cow can provide double/tripple amount of milk than the existing low merit or low percentage cross-breed HF cows. So, Dev of high yielding dairy cows, estb of cen Vet Diagnostic lab are need of time. Research is the basic tool to get the desired result on Breed up-gradation, disease diagnosis and scientific farm Mgt.

  5. PRESENT SIT OF MIL FARMS • Breed Characteristics: • Low merit cows(milk production 7 to 20 litre/cow/day) • Artificial Insemination(AI) with low merit bulls semen • Less scope for selecting high merit cows • No bull station for liquid or frozen semen

  6. PRESENT SIT • Lab Diagnosis: • No cen or unit level vet diagnostic lab • Mil Farm having primitive field test base lab(Diagnosis of parasitic and protozoal disease only) • No bacterial, viral or toxological lab facilities • No facilities for feed quality test

  34. CONCLUSION There is no alternative to increase the milk production without upgrading the breed characteristic or selection of high merit cow. Utilizing the same resources and infrastructures milk production can be increased significantly only by selecting the high merit breeding bulls and cows. Initial investment for estb of bull center and selection of merit cow is required for breed dev. After incorporation of modern sys, there will not any additional pressure on def budget for increasing the milk production. Same number of cows can provide required amount of milk and subsequently serve the purpose.
