  2. Getting the Most From of Your MCAT This exam consists of four sections, each of which are scored between 118 and 132. The perfect MCAT score is a 132 across all four sections for a total score of 528. A look at the current percentile ranks for the MCAT exam, it is seen that this is not an easy feat. Even less than 1% of all students receive a 132 on any given section of the exam. A 132 score in all four sections is very much unlikely.

  3. 5 Things to Remember for Your First Clinical Placement So after finishing your first term of classes and you must have been assigned your first clinical placement. It doesn't matter whether you're studying Medicine or Nursing, working with actual patients, learning from practicing medical professionals and seeing what your life will be like after you graduate is the often the most exciting part of your degree.

Make a habit of making notes everyday Keeping a note of everything from the patients you meet, the procedures or treatments you helped with, and even how your day was, will help you get the most of your experience. It will solidify all the information you have learned throughout that day and prevent it all blurring into one stressful mess. Some people also find it therapeutic

Different learning environments You learn in a number of settings and activities including: Consultant ward rounds – you can learn from the way doctors and consultants deal with patients, from their diagnosing techniques and their clinical deduction skills. Going on ward rounds with doctors in training, which in turn will help you learn about the daily functioning of working in a hospital. Clinic rounds with specialist nurses or other healthcare professionals. Operating theatres – observing various surgical and anaesthetic procedures live. Outpatient clinics with consultants or junior doctors. Home visits and GP surgeries– you will also learn on how GPs manage their time and make slots for diagnoses, decide when to refer patients to specialists etc. Having multidisciplinary team meetings – these may comprise nurses, social workers, physiotherapists.

The Course • CPR or Cardiopulmonary resuscitation- You will learn how to perform CPR on infants, children and adults, determining the best course of action based on the circumstances and when to stop CPR at any given time.  • CPR modules- Learn how team resuscitation is different from single player scenarios. Learn about complete mouth to mouth rescue breathing, Also carrying out chest compressions. • AED or Automated External Defibrillator- You will be trained on how and when to use an AED. Also, learn the additional steps on using an AED in case of special scenarios. • Burns- Recognising the main categories of burns i.e. first, second and third-degree burns, and how to treat best for each type of burn. • Wound Care- Learn how to diagnose the type of wound and the best practices for dressing them up for each of the types. There is also a huge emphasis on effectively cleaning the wound so as to curb any infection.
