  4. Summary • Danny Archer is an ex-mercenary from Zimbabwe who has made himself a key player in the business of conflict diamonds. He is given the opportunity to stop the political unrest in Sierra Leone. There he meets Solomon Vandy, a Mende fisherman, and the beautiful Mandy. Both Archer and Solomon are African but have very different backgrounds. Soon they are found together on a quest to find a rare pink diamond that can change their lives. While in prison, Archer learns that Solomon has hidden the extraordinary rough stone. With help from an American journalist named Maddy Bowen, the people embark on a trek through Africa.
