What is Opositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)? • problems with: defiance, disobedience and hostility toward authority figures • last for at least six months.
symptoms need to occur outside of a mood disorder • without psychotic features • cause a disruption in school, social, and work performance.. • exact cause is unknown. • contributing factors are suspected to be genetics, and family and social conflict/injury.
Symptoms of ODD. • often loses temper • often argues with adults • defies authority deliberately • deliberately annoys people • blames others for own mistakes • is touchy, angry and resentful, spiteful and vindictive.
Treatment. • Medications are not usually indicated unless another illness is present. • This illness may co occur with depression, ADHD, or anxiety disorders. • Individual and family psychotherapy
