Every book you borrow from the library, every treatment you receive at the hospital, every service you expect in the shops and every lecture you attend at university - all have been produced.

Operation Manager’s supervise the assembly of products. Planners provide production schedules. Inventory Manager’s assure the right products are on hand to assemble the product. Quality personnel assure the product is without defect. Transportation Managers make shipping arrangements to move product all over the world. Orders are transmitted electronically all over the world
Operations Managers make sure the rightproduct gets to the right customer at the right time.
Successful Operation Managers • Can strategize long-term needs AND manage short-run programs. • Have the ability to coordinate a diverse pool of resources. • The ability to delegate and monitor work. • Can coordinate people to work in teams to achieve desired outcomes.
Operations Management • The majority of the people in a company work in operations. • Roughly 75% of the assets of a corporation are in Operations. • Operations is where the money is made.

Operations Management Emphasis • The operations manager is responsible for providing the strategic direction of the operations area and for planning and controlling the activities that will lead to the success of the organization through: • Quality Management • Capacity Planning • Process Choices • Materials Management • Purchasing • Scheduling

Salary Information In 2004-2005, graduates from the College of Business with degrees in Operations Management reported: $39,500 average salary for full-time positions $2,285 per month for internship positions Job Outlook Overall good – All companies employ Operations Majors. If the manufacturing sector decreases demand will remain constant as the service sector picks up the difference.
